Dem Requests FEC Probe of Fellow Dem for Billionaire’s “Student Loan”

A Democrat candidate named Robert Zimmerman is requesting that the FEC probe his Democrat rival over a “student loan” he received from a billionaire.

Josh Lafazan received a “student loan” from billionaire investor Bryan Lawrence — but Lafazan was wealthy enough to dump $166,000 of his own money into his campaign.

The request is for the FEC to see if the “student loan” was “intended to free up other funds for the campaign.”

The New York Post reported:

A Long Island congressional candidate is urging the feds to probe whether a rival boosted his campaign coffers by funneling money there from a billionaire couple who covered at least $50,000 of his college tuition payments through a loan.

Considering records show Lafazan was wealthy enough to plunk $166,000 of his own cash into his campaign coffers, the experts said he could have easily used that same money to pay his student loans.

“The FEC should investigate whether the initial loan was itself intended to influence and be funneled to the campaign or whether it was simply intended to free up other funds for the campaign,” said Zimmerman’s campaign manager Evan Chernack.

A lawyer for the Lafazan said the allegations are “without any merit.”

Robert Zimmerman and Josh Lafazan are frontrunners in the Democrat primary for New York’s 3rd district.
